Wow, this is gorgeous! I can't believe you got a shot when the streets and sidewalks were empty, that must be rare.
@julie,
Thanks! That's the beauty of long exposures. There actually were moving people and cars in the streets. But when an exposure takes many seconds (in this case 13 seconds) to complete, moving objects don't really register in the scene -- unless they are staying mostly still, or unless they are emitting light. So, if you look closely at the street towards the bottom of the photo, you can see sort of faint light trails -- those are from the headlights/taillights of cars driving past.
Beautiful! Did you play with the colors much, or is that pretty much the original image?
Hey Nori!
I used the 'vivid' setting on my camera to begin with, which really punches up the colors. I basically only ever use that setting for landscape type stuff, because it really isn't flattering on people's skin tones. But for night shots with lots of great colors to begin with, it really makes it that much more dramatic.
Besides that, I did add some contrast and sharpening, but I don't think I added any more saturation than the vivid setting already provides.
Ah, so that's what the "vivid" mode does. You're using a Nikon, here?
Yup, a Nikon D300. I'm pretty sure that every camera (be it Canon, Nikon, etc.) has some version of a vivid color mode.
